Exercise and Recovery Responses of Lymphokines to Heavy Resistance Exercise
2000
To examine the effect of dynamic resistance exercise on the response patterns of lymphokines, 10 strength-trained men (21.7 +- 0.6 y) performed 2 resistance exercise protocols, high force (HF) and high power (HP), of equal total work (HF 5 33.0 +- 2.5 kJ; HP 5 33.3 +- 2.7 kJ) in a randomized order separated by 1 week. Resting blood samples were obtained preexercise and 0 (R-0), 15 (R-15), and 240 (R-240) minutes postexercise. Plasma lactate significantly (p < 0.05) increased from baseline for both protocols; however, concentrations were higher in response to the HF protocol. Plasma interleukin- 2 (IL-2) concentrations were significantly decreased from baseline at R-15 following the HF proto…
Latent class identification in wheezing preschool children
2016
Background and aim Since the forced oscillation technique (FOT) has not been used in previous studies on wheezing phenotyping in preschool children, we applied FOT in a large series of outpatients visited at IBIM. Methods We analyzed 256 consecutively enrolled ≤5 years children with doctor diagnosis of wheezing. Latent Class Analysis (LCA) was performed considering the following personal characteristics: type, cause, recurrence in last 12 months, respiratory resistance (Avr_R(8)), atopy, history of eczema, rhinitis and upper airways infections. High resistance is defined as positive residual of regression on sex, age, height and weight. Risk factors were considered meaningful when they yiel…
Perfluorinated Compounds’ Analysis, Environmental Fate and Occurrence: The Llobregat River as Case Study
2012
Perfluorinated compounds are industrial chemicals widely used for more than 60 years. However, during the last decade, due to their high resistance to degradation, bioaccumulation attached to proteins, biomagnification to the food chain and their relation to toxicological effects of these compounds have gained scientific and regulatory attention.
